Introduction to WordPress

It is like the Alfred of web browsing. A piece of software that does the hard work for you. The magic happens when a user types your web address in their browser, the device reads it aloud and the engine behind WordPress does the rest. Now, this is not to say that other CMS’s like Joomla or Drupal does not do the same, but WordPress makes it easy. What You Need to Get Started with WordPress?
Follow these steps and you’ll be up and running in no time: Get a domain name (URL), e.g. Wordpress.com, Create a MySQL or MariaDB database, and name it appropriately. and name it appropriately. Install WordPress on a hosting account, and install the plug-ins, if needed. If you are using WordPress on a Mac, install FrontPage. If you are using a Windows PC, install Apache. Start Using WordPress You will see a welcome screen when you log in for the first time. This screen gives you the options to Log in, Install WordPress, Visit Settings, Edit User, and so on.
Create your WordPress site
1) Go to your admin area of WordPress.
2) Enter your website address and hit the ‘Create Site’ button.
3) You’ll be prompted to give your site a name and a unique path, as well as giving it a one or two-line description.
4) Click on ‘Edit Posts’, you can check the template of your new or existing site before entering the text to describe your site.
5) Click on ‘Continue’ and then ‘Next’.
6) A help box will open asking you questions to help you customize your new or existing site.
7) Enter the name of your site. (Note: This could change later).
8) Add the site description.
9) Check the box on ‘Format your Home page URL’ and enter the site address for your site.
10) You will need to click on ‘Next’ to continue.
Choosing a domain name
You can either register a .com domain (i.e. people.com) or .net domain (people.net). You can pay for either one. You can’t register a domain name that has ‘.com’ in it unless you also registered the ‘.net’. Don’t worry if you’re not sure if .com is taken or not, you can use this website to check. Also be aware that .net is the default hostname for WordPress, so if you are registering for a .com domain name then that .com will default to WordPress.com. You should be able to get a domain name in a .org format as well if you have one already. Setting up a Free WordPress Hosting Account You can use one of the many free WordPress hosting providers like WPEngine, WPEngine, HostGator, or Softaculous. You will need to create an account with the company.
Choosing to host and getting it set up with the domain name
Choosing Hosting First you’ll need to choose your hosting service. There are many hosting providers out there to choose from. I recommend getting a VPS service. These are small dedicated servers that you can control yourself, with all of the control over the features, security, and performance. If you have a slow internet connection then you may prefer to get a shared hosting account. This will allow you to host one website that is shared with many other people. It’s still a little slower but you will only be sharing one website. You can try out all the web hosting companies by doing some free web searching. Installing WordPress on your hosting
Before we do anything, you need to make sure that your server has the latest version of WordPress. WordPress is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. Before you install WordPress on your web hosting, check with your provider first if the latest version is available for your website or if you’ll need to go with an older version. If you already have WordPress installed on your web hosting, it’s safe to proceed but it’s recommended that you use an alternative solution like WooThemes. WordPress is installed through the command-line interface (CLI), and if you don’t have a GUI-based server, you will have to install it this way.
Installing WordPress Theme and Plugins
WordPress is divided into two different sections – the admin panel and the themes and plugins page.
